The Ghosts of Thurnham Hall

Local historian and Chair of Lancaster Civic Society, John Regan, has for more than ten years conducted guided tours around Thurnham Hall, near Lancaster.

Thurnham Hall is a grade-I-listed 17th-century country house in the village of Thurnham, Lancashire, 10 km south of Lancaster. The present building is a three-storey stone-built house probably built in the 17th century for Robert Dalton.

Often whilst giving his historical account of this fascinating building his audience would come forward with experiences that they had encountered themselves.

Soon these became too numerous to be ignored and John has now set out a light-hearted look at some of the ‘other’ occupants of Thurnham Hall – including the ones he has met himself!

The details are told in his booklet The Ghosts of Thurnham Hall which is available at a cost of £3 including postage and packing – £2 to members of Lancaster Civic Society – and can be purchase by contacting John at reganjf@outlook.com

Additionally, John holds occasional tours of 76, Church Street, Lancaster and has written a guide about this building where Bonnie Prince Charlie is once reputedly to have stayed.

He states “At first glance it is just another beautiful Georgian building in a city of Georgian buildings, but you should never take anything at its face value.”
